LANDSCAPE & COMMISSIONED PHOTOGRAPHY

LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY LOCATION GUIDES:

Lone Tree, Llyn Padarn, Llanberis

SUMMARY:

Best at / for: Mid-winter sunrise

Best avoided: all other times.

Parking: free parking nearby.

Access: easy short 1 minute walk.

Notes: almost always packed with photographers!

Details:

It’s THAT lone tree.

Expect to have to fight for a position with other photographers.

But if you can, visit on weekday around the winter solstice.

The lake water level will be up enough to isolate it and the sun rises right in middle of the valley behind it.

If the weather is good, get there about 45 minutes before sun up and shoot as the light levels rise and the colour builds. On a still winter’s day the lake will usually be like glass and the skylight reflections will be rather good.

That’s what I’d aim for.

But it’s an iconic shot for a reason. So whenever you can, make an effort to get there – it’s worth a shot!
