Camera Club Presentations

I did an online presentation for a lovely group of people at a camera club in Keynsham, Bristol, earlier this week. For the last five or six years I’ve been “touring” a presentation called: “Four Seasons in North Wales: A Celebration Of My Favourite Locations”. Sometimes in person if it’s not too far away, otherwise online over Zoom.

Of course, I continued doing it online during lockdown. And as there’s no cost involved to me I do it for free as it’s good to help out camera clubs struggling with finance.

And in any case it’s no effort at all talking for a couple of hours about my two favourite subjects: landscape photography and North Wales!

Over the years, I’ve given thought to how I might record this presentation and never really come up with a reasonable solution. To record a presentation with a live audience I would really need a crew to sort out filming and audio, otherwise the quality just wouldn’t cut it.

And when I present online it’s enough to think about keeping the technology running to a room full of people hundreds of miles away without thinking about making sure my screen is recording properly and running a separate audio feed. By which I mean, I could do it, but it would give me too much to think about while I’m trying to present and make sure that everything runs smoothly for the audience.

Anyway, what I thought I would do, exclusive to Patrons, is to save the presentation slides out to a PDF and the link below will let you download them, so at least you can get a flavour of what one of my presentations is like. It’s quite a big file about 100 MB so may take a little while to download on slower connections.

Mostly, it’s about 200 or so images grouped together as if on a virtual tour, starting on the island close to home. Then we do a quick spin round the coastline, head onto the mainland for a tour through for connected valleys in North Wales, and we end up back on the island at my favourite location of Llanddwyn.

The way I set up my presentation slide deck allows me to drop in new images as I make them so I can keep it up-to-date. To be honest when I look back at the earlier versions some of the images were very ropey! But I had to use them to illustrate the locations I was talking about.

Of course, if you’re looking at the PDF you will have no idea what the first section of slides is all about because they are there to illustrate my introduction, backstory and approach to landscape photography so you’ll just have to guess what I might have been saying over that section.

But I hope that the location information and images will be a pleasant way to waste five minutes or so, especially if you’re not from around here. Hope you enjoy this 😊👍
