Cwmorthin, Blaenau Ffestiniog
SUMMARY:
Best at / for: sunrise and sunset.
Best avoided: None – it’s a good location year round.
Parking: roadside and local free parking.
Access: steep walking in places, but plenty of flat walking.
Notes: a great introduction to the area.
Details:
Cwmorthin is a quiet hanging valley very close to Blaenau Ffestiniog, with good parking and easy access.
Being some way from the more popular areas it’s a great location for a quieter day out.
Quite aside from the scenery, there is some interesting industrial heritage.
A longer, but not technical, walk up through the valley to Bwlch y Rhosydd offers panoramic westerly and sunset views all the way down to the coast at Porthmadog.
The mountain ridge is a great area for wandering about and wild-camping.
