LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY LOCATION GUIDES:
Llyn Coron, Anglesey
SUMMARY:
Best at / for: any time, including both sunrise or sunset.
Best avoided: during game shoots in January
Parking: free parking with close access to the location.
Access: minimal walking required if mobility is a problem.
Notes: worth a visit once you’ve been to all the iconic spots.
Details:
This is a location about which even locals have asked: “where’s that?” No, really!
So, as a truly obscure location, it’s included for 2 reasons. Firstly, it’s very local to me so I photograph there often, especially as sunset. The low westerly horizon helps a lot.
Secondly, because if you’re visiting Anglesey for an extended period or as a repeat visitor, having already got the usual locations in your portfolio, it may offer an alternative.
It is often best in autumn / winter. That’s because the banks become very overgrown in summer and the out of season dormant foliage can create interesting foregrounds when the skies are perhaps not as interesting as you’d like. But at all times of your you will almost certainly find solitude as it is a very quiet location, even when the holiday hordes are on the island.
It’s very close to Aberffraw, just off the route between Llanddwyn Island and The Church In The Sea, and easy to reach.
