LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY LOCATION GUIDES:
South Stack, Holyhead, Anglesey
SUMMARY:
Best at / for: sunset, stormy weather.
Best avoided: public holidays, flat light.
Parking: some free parking but mostly paid nearby.
Access: minimal walking required if mobility is a problem.
Notes: a popular location, so can be very busy at times.
Details:
As with Llanddwyn Island, this is as iconic a location as they come! So there’s little personal insight which I can add.
One thing worth mentioning, though, is that this is not at all suitable for sunrises. It only gets early morning light for about a week either side of mid-summer!
Storm surges and sunsets are what South Stack is best for. But beware, there are very few angles available to get a shot, and you may well be shoulder to shoulder with other photographers at any time of year – unless you can make it on a wet Wednesday morning in February!
Also, have some cash handy, the RSPB now charges £5 for parking.
