Group Workshop: Springtime In The Eryri Mountains – April 2024

£95.00

Sunday 14th April 2023
7 hours – from 10:00 to 17:00

LIMITED TO JUST 6 PARTICIPANTS

We’re visiting the upland valley of Rhyd Ddu, in Snowdonia, between Caernarfon and Beddgelert – a great location for landscape photography.

We’ll be starting late(ish) to allow for particpants’ travel to the area and so anyone stopping over from the Saturday workshop can have a leisurely breakfast, or perhaps pop out for a sunrise shoot beforehand!

Whilst this location can be very good for sunsets, I’m conscious that some participants need to get away in good time for travelling home and so we’ll formally finish up earlier than the Saturday workshop, but of course there’s nothing to stop anyone hanging around if the light looks interesting. Sunset is around 20:30, but the sun will be down behind the mountains at least an hour or so before this time.

I like to bring photographers to this location because it affords easy parking to meet up, and gives 360° views around some great ridge-lines, peaks, lakes and forests. It’s a great combination of all manner of mountain subjects within easy walking. Just half an hour in any direction from the car park can give us elevated views, allowing us to take advantage of whatever the conditions are doing in terms of light direction, weather etc. It’s a great place to act as an introduction to mountain photography, whilst still providing enjoyment for more experienced photographers, without difficult hiking to spoil your day. This is a location which can present challenges, but also great rewards to the landscape photographer in any light and weather conditions. So whatever we encounter I should be able to help you come away with good images to enjoy.

Any standard of photographer is more than welcome – from a complete novice, to an expert with a large format film camera who just wants to visit some great locations! I always make time to work individually with each participant, but it’s also about meeting others and sharing ideas. These workshops are always a great day out as well as informative and educational. Aside from identifying subjects and compositions, we’ll also cover aspects of technique and exposure, use of gear and any other tips and tricks in line with what you would like to work on, and your current capabilities. So if you’re already adept with your gear, you can still enjoy the locations without “being taught how to suck eggs”. However, if you’re a complete beginner it’s a great opportunity to learn from more experienced photographers and gain lots of encouragement to improve.

I do arrange pit-stops for refreshments and toilet breaks. Just bring suitable clothing, footwear, camera gear and enthusiasm!

I always minimise the amount of walking so we have as much photography time as possible. However, do bear in mind that our location may be problematic if you have “significant” mobility issues – if you’re not sure whether it will be suitable, please contact me before booking.

Payment is required to book, and you can cancel up to 28 days beforehand for a full refund – no questions asked.
